"My teen missed class! Now what?"

Please remember, the Archdiocesan attendance standard is at least 85% attendance for completion of a grade level.

8th Grade Make-Up

The Chosen program we use in class has video content that is available online, but an access code must be used to gain entry to our "study" and view the videos.

If you already have an account, skip down to the numbered directions below to catch your student up on the missed class.

If you haven't yet made an account, go to https://ascensionpress.com/redeem to create your account using the code: G4M8ZH. IMPORTANT: We have only paid for a limited number of uses for this activation code, so if you have used it do not use it again, simply log in to the account you have already created.

  1. Prepare for the Lesson
    • You will need your Chosen Parent's Guide book that you received at our Orientation meeting.
    • Open to the lesson that your teen missed in class (Juliana in our faith formation office can tell you what lesson your student missed. Keep in mind, we do not cover all the lessons so this may not be the next chapter after the one your student remembers from the previous class, so it is important to get this information straight from his/her catechist. We also have split the lessons into two parts, so you will only need to cover the half of the lesson that your teen missed.)
    • Read the information about this lesson and review the Conversation Starter questions.
  2. Access Videos Online
    1. Go to www.ascensionpress.com
    2. Log in. Once you are logged in it should take you to a page labeled "My Dashboard" (if not, you can go to your dashboard in the upper right hand corner of the page)
    3. Under "Current Studies" you should see CHOSEN, click on the image
    4. On the Chosen video page you should have access to all the videos, which are listed in a scrolling box on the right by Lesson number and Segment number.
  3. Guide your Teen through the Lesson

If your teen missed the 
​FIRST HALF OF THE LESSON
  1. Have your student turn to the first page for the lesson he or she missed.
  2. Start with the Opening Prayer. 
  3. On the next page you will find a "Dive In" page. Read this together and discuss.
  4. On the next page you will find three sets of questions for three video segments.
    1. At this point, watch through segments 1 and 2 that you accessed on the Ascension Press website. Be sure you are choosing the correct lesson videos from the scroll box.
    2. After each segment, discuss the content with your teen. Use the conversation starter questions you found in your Parent's Guide to help get you started. Be sure to share in the discussion personally, this is an amazing opportunity for your teen to witness your faith journey.
  5. Challenge one another - come up with something specific you can do either together or both separately this week to challenge yourself in living out your faith. It can be tied to the lesson topic, or not. (You should check in with each other at the end of the week to review how it went.)
  6. Close in Prayer together.
If your teen missed the 
SECOND HALF OF THE LESSON
  1. Have your student turn to the first page for the lesson he or she missed.
  2. Start with the Opening Prayer. 
  3. Skip the Dive In section, but ask your teen to review for you what was covered in the first half of the lesson and the first two videos. (You should watch these at least on your own in advance so you are ready for the second half.)
  4. On the next page you will find three sets of questions for three video segments.
    1. At this point, watch through segment 3 only that you accessed on the Ascension Press website. Be sure you are choosing the correct lesson video from the scroll box.
    2. After the video, discuss the content with your teen. Use the conversation starter questions you found in your Parent's Guide to help get you started. Be sure to share in the discussion personally, this is an amazing opportunity for your teen to witness your faith journey.
  5. After the video and discussion, read the To the Heart story on the following page.
  6. Review the Hero of the Week.
  7. Have your teen pick on of the Challenges of the Week to work on this week. Choose one for yourself and share with your teen which one you are planning to do.
  8. Do the Closing Prayer together.
  9. There are additional pages that follow the lesson titled "Taking it Home". This is good review to go over together another time, particularly just before the next class.

7th Grade Make-Up

Decision Point, the program we use in our 7th Grade classes, has a free online library of the videos we use in class. You can access the videos by going to https://dynamiccatholic.com/confirmation/program-view.
  1. When you email our office [email protected], be sure to find out what session (like chapters) your teen missed in class. (Each session takes 2 hours to cover so we have split the sessions to be covered over 2 classes. Be sure you know which half of the session your teen missed.)
  2. Access the content online and guide your teen through the lesson:

​FIRST HALF OF A SESSION
  1. Start with a prayer. You can find a written prayer on the title page for the session.
  2. Read the intro together. Watch the Introduction video that you accessed on: https://dynamiccatholic.com/confirmation/program-view
  3. Discuss the video and the content you read together using the discussion questions on the next page.
  4. Repeat this process with part _.1 and _.2 (For example, if you are on session 5 you would watch, read, and discuss the session 5 Introduction, 5.1, and 5.2.
  5. Close in prayer together.
If your teen missed the
SECOND HALF OF A SESSION
  1. Start with a prayer. You can find a written prayer on the title page for the session.
  2. Ask your teen to recount to you what he/she learned in the first half of the session. You will want to have watched these videos/reviewed these pages from the first half of the lesson on your own to be sure you are prepared to lead them through the second half of the lesson.
  3. Read the _.3 pages and watch the _.3 video that you accessed on: https://dynamiccatholic.com/confirmation/program-view
  4. Discuss the video and the content you read together using the discussion questions on the next page.
  5. Repeat this process with part _.4 and _.5 (For example, if you are on session 5 you would watch, read, and discuss the 5.3, 5.4, and 5.5.)
  6. There may be an additional prayer or activity on the pages following the .5 part.
  7. Close in prayer together.
